As you may already know I believe that every day is a learning day and that you should always push yourself in new directions, even if it’s just to experiment. Every year I go on a wedding photography training day with a different photographer who I respect to see how they work and if I can take any nugget of info or techniques away to improve then I will. Yesterday I was on a Brett Harkness Wedding Photography Training day at Storrs Hall in the Lake District.
Days like this are amazing as asking a bride to spin on the spot for half an hour while you move the lights around to get the best shot isn’t exactly practical so days like this really do help me look at things differently with an absolute camera maestro to my side to talk through ideas. I do and always will experiment during my real weddings as all of my clients will know but as I say above you still have to be sensitive to the fact its a wedding day, not a photo shoot.
Brett is an amazing photographer who I personally believe is one of the best wedding photographers in the UK. So to see how he works and thinks, alongside talking business talk was just perfection. One of the biggest shocks for me was how similar we were in photographic principles and work ethos. In a weird way, it’s nice to see what I can become through hard work and sticking at it for 20 years or so like Brett Has!
