Ciaran & George contacted me about photographing their Carlisle elopement wedding. However, because it was a secret wedding I wanted to give them a little bit more, than just a ceremony. I wanted to show the story they had made so far, Something more the cherish. We decided to combine a day out in a forest with the day itself to express this amazing couple as they are. In a beautifully intimate, honest and creative way. I’m not going to talk too much as I don’t want to detract from this epic couple, So read the below written by Ciaran.
They Also Just announced this awesome event to the world with this epic video! Enjoy!
We had met through social media (back before it became cool). George was baking a cake and it had not turned out well at all, I had seen this by chance and offered him some advice. That was it, from that moment on we were in contact on a daily basis and it grew into what we are now. Five years, five months and five days later, we are to be Husband and Husband. We have been engaged for about three years but nothing ever got off the ground, there was always something else going on at the time that would take over and become more of a priority.
Obviously like I said, it had been over five years so a lot of stuff had happened; exciting, happy, awesome things alongside the complete opposite. During these times we were there for each other as any partnership should be, we are the couple that we want to be. Filled with love and admiration.
Something happened at the beginning of 2017. It was either a shift in the solar system or a glitch in the matrix, but we had a very casual conversation while making dinner that we should actually get married this year, just do it. Us two. A week or two later after this, I stood outside work and phoned the registry office and booked our wedding.
March 15th at 11:30
I went over to George at his work and told him to keep that date free and it was as easy and simple as that. (Obviously there is a tiny appointment to give notice before the big day but that is all).
We would get married on the Wednesday and on Thursday morning catch the ferry back to Ireland and have a nice week there, which is technically our honeymoon. After booking the wedding we told our family members, just to give them a heads up and it’s all been positive and although they want to be there for the big day, they understand that it’s what we want and support us all they way. What more could you want?
Considering most of my family live back in Ireland and George’s family live here in Cumbria, we knew logistically getting everyone in the right place wouldn’t be cheap and we both thought, why bother having a big wedding? Why should we get stressed out over it when at the end of the day, a wedding lasts for a few hours but a marriage lasts a lifetime?
We don’t have anything against weddings or receptions we just don’t have the resources and most importantly, it’s not us. Keeping it a secret just made it much easier and more special, as we tend to keep our cards close to our chest with most things, so it was easy. When people find out that you’re getting married, the wedding seems to become the sole focus of your life and being, and that’s the complete opposite to what we are about. We’re just going to get married and after, we’re going to go out and have a burger,…. and live happily ever after.. or some sh*t.”
