Second Shooter Wedding Photographer in Yorkshire & the Peak District

If you’re looking for a second shooter wedding photographer in Yorkshire or the Peak District, you’re probably not just looking for another camera.

You’re looking for someone you can trust on a demanding wedding day.
Someone who understands how you work.
Someone who strengthens your coverage without ego, friction, or supervision.
That’s exactly how I work.
I’m Joshua Wyborn, a professional wedding photographer with over 15 years’ experience, available as a second shooter across West Yorkshire, Sheffield, the Peak District, and elsewhere in the UK.

How I Work as a Second Shooter

When I second shoot, my role is clear.
I work for the lead photographer.

I’m there to support your coverage, not compete with it.
That means staying aware of where you are at all times and anticipating moments before they happen.

In practice, I cover what you can’t be in two places to capture.
Guest reactions. Parallel prep. Natural moments unfolding throughout the day.

I work independently when needed and follow direction cleanly when given.
You won’t need to micromanage me — but you’ll always know I’ve got it covered.

I have my own established shooting style, built over many years.
When second shooting, I’m always happy to adapt.

If you have preferred aperture settings, focal lengths, or shooting habits, I’ll match them where appropriate.

The aim is simple: a final gallery that feels consistent and cohesive.

Experience That Shows on the Day

After photographing weddings for well over a decade, you develop something that can’t be rushed.

Judgement.

Knowing when to step forward and when to hang back.
Knowing how to work around a venue without disruption.
Knowing how to stay calm when timelines slip and pressure builds.

I understand the realities of real wedding days.
Not idealised ones.

My presence is calm, professional, and unobtrusive.
Couples and guests feel at ease.
Venues feel respected.
You’re free to focus on leading the day.

From quiet moments before a couple are married, to reactions during speeches — including a husband seeing things unfold across the room — I stay focused on documenting moments rooted in genuine love, not just activity.

Technical Confidence, Not Guesswork

I shoot on a Canon R3, paired primarily with professional prime lenses.

I’m completely comfortable working in challenging light.
Dark churches. Barns. Low-lit venues. Evening receptions.

I use a considered mix of:

  • Available light
  • On-camera flash
  • Off-camera flash

The choice always depends on the moment.

You get clean, usable pictures that sit naturally alongside yours.
No guesswork.
No crossed fingers.

A Service-First Approach

By default, my approach as a second shooter is deliberately simple.

do not edit second shooter images.
do not use images for my own portfolio, marketing, or social media.
I have no intention of doing so unless we explicitly agree otherwise in advance.

I’m there to work for the lead photographer.
Nothing more complicated than that.

If you prefer, I’m also happy to shoot directly to your SD cards and hand them back at the end of the day.
That way, everything stays entirely within your existing workflow.

Reliability, Preparation & Professionalism

Once a date is confirmed, I commit fully.

Before the wedding, I familiarise myself with the venue, timings, and any preferences you’ve shared.
On the day, I arrive prepared and adapt quickly if plans change.

I attend every wedding with full equipment redundancy.
Backup camera bodies.
Backup lenses.
Spare batteries and memory cards.

I’m fully insured and operate professionally at all times.
I represent your brand respectfully with couples, guests, venues, videographers, and the wider team.

Second Shooter Day Rate

My rate as a second shooter wedding photographer is £350 per day.

This reflects experience, technical confidence, and reliability.
It reflects having someone you don’t need to worry about on a long wedding day.

Coverage typically includes 8–10 hours.
Early starts, late finishes, or extended coverage can be agreed when needed.

Rather than offering confusing packages, I keep things clear and flexible.
You decide how you want to spend your coverage time.

Areas Covered

I’m available as a second shooter wedding photographer across:

  • West Yorkshire
  • Sheffield
  • The Peak District
  • Derbyshire
  • Surrounding areas across the UK

I’m happy to travel further for the right working relationship.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much direction do you need on the day?

Very little.

I’m comfortable taking responsibility for coverage while staying aware of what you’re doing at all times.
Clear expectations beforehand are usually all that’s needed.

Will you follow my shooting style and settings?

Yes — without ego.

I have my own established style, but when second shooting my priority is consistency.
If you typically shoot at certain apertures or focal lengths, I’ll adapt so everything blends naturally.

How do you communicate during the wedding day?

Quietly and efficiently.

I keep communication minimal so moments, guests, and your flow aren’t interrupted.

How do you handle changes or delays?

Calmly.

Wedding days are fluid.
I adjust quickly without adding pressure or noise.

Are you comfortable working alongside videographers?

Yes.

I regularly work alongside video teams and understand how to share space and movement respectfully.

How do you deliver images?

Images are delivered promptly and clearly organised.

If you prefer, I can shoot directly to your SD cards and hand them back at the end of the day.

Are longer hours or early starts an issue?

Not at all.

Longer days are part of the job, and extended coverage can be agreed easily when needed.

Are you happy signing NDAs or working under another brand?

Yes.

I’m happy to sign NDAs, work under another brand, or shoot as an associate where required.
