Returning to Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery in Carlisle for Lauren and John’s wedding was an incredible full-circle moment, marking 15 years since the very first wedding I ever photographed. Even more special was that this wedding was the very first held at Tullie House following its stunning refurbishment—and what a perfect backdrop it provided for Lauren and John’s unforgettable celebration of love and commitment!
Lauren and John’s story began in 2015 when they met at work in Liverpool. After several years as colleagues in the same office (albeit in different departments), their friendship blossomed into romance in 2019. Their first date reflected their shared love of music—attending a local music festival, quickly followed by another gig. Like many other couples, they found joy in planning their special day together.
Their bond grew stronger in March 2020 when, with the announcement of lockdown, Lauren moved in with John, bringing along her cat to join John’s feline companion, instantly filling their home with warmth (and a touch of feline mischief!). Their passion for adventure has seen them regularly jetting off on city breaks across the UK, Europe, and even the USA. The couple was excited to marry in such a stunning venue.
Carlisle was the natural choice for their special day. Although Lauren has called Liverpool home since 2006, her roots in Carlisle run deep. Located on Castle Street in Carlisle’s historic quarter, near Carlisle Castle, the tranquil gardens and stunning Grade I-listed 17th-century Old Tullie House provided an ideal backdrop for memorable photographs. Friends and family journeyed from Liverpool, with special guests travelling from Berlin and New Zealand, adding an extra special touch to the celebrations.
The ceremony began at 1 pm in the Lecture Theatre, with its tiered seating offering guests a unique experience as Lauren made her impressive bridal entrance. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a relaxed drinks reception in the tranquil gardens until 3:45 pm, exploring the museum’s beautiful spaces, historic rooms, and remarkable art gallery. There was also a cheeky trip to a nearby local pub, a favourite for Lauren & John.
At 4 pm, everyone gathered for the wedding breakfast in Tullie House’s stylish restaurant, starting with touching speeches that perfectly captured the warmth and love shared on this important day. The celebration continued at 7:30 pm with an evening reception in the Garden Room, a stunning space opening onto a charming terrace, and a delightful buffet served from 8:30 pm.
Music was central to their big day, expertly provided by friends and family who delivered eclectic DJ sets featuring vinyl records and digital devices, spanning diverse genres and decades. The museum’s newly redesigned spaces, with their historic walls and striking original artwork, provided endless inspiration for photography.
Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery truly offered Lauren and John the perfect location for their celebration, ensuring every moment was unforgettable. Congratulations again to Lauren and John—here’s to many more years filled with adventures, music festivals, and memorable city breaks!
