Some weddings are extra special, not just because of the setting or the details but because of the people involved. Kelly and Liam’s autumn wedding at Kinmount House was exactly that—an incredible celebration filled with love, laughter, and deeply personal touches. Having known Kelly since our University of Cumbria days, it was an absolute honour to capture her wedding day and witness the beautiful connection she shares with Liam.
Why Kinmount House?
When it came to choosing a venue, Kelly and Liam knew they wanted to stay local. As soon as they visited Kinmount House, they fell in love with its breathtaking grounds, grand architecture, and how it provided the perfect backdrop for their wedding photography. But beyond its aesthetic appeal, Kinmount House offered the ideal blank canvas for Kelly to unleash her creativity and add her own DIY personal touches to the day, making it truly unique to them as a couple.
A Meaningful Humanist Ceremony
After attending various weddings, from religious to civil ceremonies, Kelly and Liam were drawn to the deeply personal nature of a humanist wedding. They wanted a ceremony that told their story in their own way, and that’s exactly what their celebrant, Lindsey, helped them achieve. From exchanging private vows to incorporating Scottish traditions like handfasting, every element of their ceremony was full of meaning.
One particularly beautiful moment was the handfasting, where Kelly’s wedding dress fabric and Liam’s tartan were woven together—symbolising the blending of their Yorkshire and Scottish roots. It was a powerful and symbolic moment, truly representative of their love and heritage.
How They Met
Kelly and Liam’s story began back in Kelly’s university days at the University of Cumbria. At the time, Kelly was studying BAPA (those who know, know!), and Liam was none other than the younger brother of her flatmate, Megan. What started as a simple connection blossomed into something much deeper over time, leading them to this beautiful autumn day where they promised forever to each other.
Capturing Their Day
It’s always special to photograph a couple you know, but even more so when they’re close friends. While Kelly and I had known of each other since university and even worked together on shoots before, it’s only in the past few years that we’ve become really close. Seeing her and Liam tie the knot was an emotional and joyous experience, and capturing their wedding felt more like documenting a love story of dear friends than just another job.
From golden-hour portraits among the autumn leaves to laughter-filled candid moments, every shot reflected the warmth, personality, and love that surrounded their day. Kinmount House provided the perfect setting, but it was Kelly and Liam’s energy and connection that made it truly magical.
