Paul & Hannah’s Wedding at Lady Gilford’s House & Low Wood Bay
Paul and Hannah’s wedding day was nothing short of an adventure, filled with laughter, love, and stunning Lake District landscapes. Their journey began in Carlisle at the beautiful Lady Gilford’s House, where they exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony surrounded by family and friends. From there, the celebration moved into the heart of the Lakes, culminating in a lively reception at the Low Wood Bay Hotel & Spa on the shores of Windermere.
A Breathtaking Portrait Session in the Lakes
Between the ceremony and the party, we took a detour into the Lakes for some unforgettable portraits. Our first stop was Castlerigg Stone Circle, where the rolling hills and ancient stones provided a timeless backdrop. Next, we made our way to Thirlmere, capturing the couple in the midst of stunning reflections and dramatic landscapes. Finally, we arrived at Low Wood Bay, where we took some final portraits on the jetty, overlooking the serene waters of Windermere as the sun began to set.
Paul & Hannah’s Story
Paul and Hannah’s love story is one of fate, adventure, and shared passions.
Hannah, originally from Orpington, has always had a love for adventure, spending her childhood camping along the south coast and creating memories with her best friend Aimee. She worked in childcare and sales before finding her path in the rail industry. Apart from being a self-proclaimed expert in drinking (black belt, 2nd Dan, according to Paul), she also played rugby until an injury forced her to retire.
Paul, the youngest of six siblings, grew up in Winsford, with strong ties to Barrow-in-Furness, where he spent a lot of time with family. He joined the Cheshire Regiment as a medic before transitioning into the rail industry. A proud father and grandfather, Paul cherishes time spent with his family and shares Hannah’s love for the outdoors.
A Life of Adventure
2020 tested their relationship, with long-distance struggles during lockdown. However, their bond only grew stronger, and in September of that year, Hannah made the life-changing decision to move north to be closer to Paul. They started their life together in Winsford before eventually moving in, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and their beloved Spaniel, Phoebe.
Their shared passion for adventure has taken them all over the country in their yellow VW camper, Aister, which is always packed and ready for a spontaneous getaway. Whether it’s weekends in the Lakes, long road trips, or tackling the Wainwrights (Paul is close to completing them, with Hannah joining in), they are always seeking their next adventure.
Why Carlisle & Low Wood Bay?
The Lakes have always held a special place in Paul’s heart, with childhood memories of exploring its rugged beauty. They originally planned to marry in the North Lakes, but when things didn’t quite align, they found the perfect balance in Carlisle and Low Wood Bay—a combination that allowed them to celebrate in the city while still embracing the beauty of the Lake District.
Wedding Style & Photography
Paul and Hannah wanted a relaxed, candid approach to their wedding photography, capturing natural moments rather than staged poses. Their preference was for autumnal Lake District vibes, focusing on the joy and authenticity of the day rather than overly formal images. Of course, Phoebe played a key role in their portraits, as she’s an irreplaceable part of their journey together.
Their wedding was a true reflection of who they are—fun, adventurous, and deeply connected to the places they love. From the elegant ceremony at Lady Gilford’s House to the breathtaking Lakes portraits and the vibrant celebration at Low Wood Bay, it was a day filled with unforgettable moments.
Congratulations, Paul & Hannah! Here’s to many more adventures together!
