Ullswater is gorgeous, a hugely popular lake with steamers trotting up and down touring the water. The base for many hikers to start their adventure for a Helvellyn ascent. We, however, decided to head up to Heron Pike, Just below Sheffield Pike. While it's a crazy steep climb in some parts, it's a short hike full of crags and breathtaking views all the way down Ullswater from the top.
Mark was a groomsman for Chris & Brooke at their Villa Levens Wedding and a few months later Kelly got in touch asking about a shoot to celebrate their wedding anniversary as she saw I do post-wedding shoots and that I know the lakes quite well.
I came across a photo online in a Lake districting hiking group from Heron Pike and I just knew I had to photograph it at some point so with this in mind and the amazing weather we had. We planned our post-wedding adventure hike overlooking Ullswater.
Heron Pike is about a 450M climb from Glenridding and about a mile away making it about a 28% gradient climb.. which is hard but good going for a small hike. With a few pitstops on the way up, we made short work of the hike with stunning views over Ullswater, Glenridding, and Patterdale. We could even see all the way over to the Pennines!
Like most couples, Kelly & Mark had never really had photos taken of them, and certainly not posey ones. so to start off with we kept it really simple and talked about how in order to get brave photos you need to be brave, but also to relax and just go with whatever your feeling at the time. Even if you're on the edge of a rock. Just trust each other, trust me, and if you don't want to do something we won't do it.. nice and simple. But man we got some amazing photos!
It was honestly so much fun chatting and laughing all the way up and back down. Meeting other walkers, surprised to see a lady in a wedding dress up a fell, and getting creative with the incredible landscape and this awesome couple.
