Weddings are beautiful, but they move fast. Between the ceremony, guests, and the timeline of the day, it’s rare to truly take a moment just for the couple. That’s why I absolutely love fine art portrait sessions after the wedding—when we can slow down, get adventurous, and create something truly unique without the constraints of the wedding schedule.
This session with Steffy, Joe, and their daughter Orla was exactly that—relaxed, meaningful, and a dream come true for them.
I first met Steffy while out walking our dogs. We got chatting, and at some point, I showed her some images from previous mountain portrait sessions. That’s when she told me about her dream—she had always imagined wedding portraits in the mountains, but when it came to their actual wedding, they had opted for a smaller city celebration. That dream of standing in the wild landscape in her wedding dress never left her mind.
So, for their anniversary, we made it happen.
We headed to Buttermere, a place that holds deep meaning for them as a family. The morning greeted us with sunshine, and from the very first moments, I could tell it was going to be a special shoot. Little Orla was with us, adding an extra layer of fun and spontaneity, and even though Joe isn’t the biggest fan of having his photo taken, he quickly relaxed into the experience. That’s always my goal—making people feel at ease, guiding them naturally, and ensuring that the session feels enjoyable rather than posed or forced.
One of the most exciting moments of the day came at the very end. Steffy had mentioned before that she wanted a shot of herself standing in the lake in her wedding dress, so I asked, “Do you still want to do it?” Her face lit up, and without hesitation, she waded in. It was an incredible way to finish the shoot, and the images from that moment are some of my favorites.
Later that evening, I sent over the final images, and Steffy messaged me saying how stunned they were. That’s the best part of what I do—taking someone’s vision, their dream, and turning it into something real.
This session was a reminder of why I love post-wedding portraits. There’s no rush, no stress—just you, your partner, and the freedom to create something breathtaking in a place that means the world to you.
If you’ve ever dreamt of capturing something special after your wedding day—whether it’s in the mountains, by a lake, or anywhere that holds meaning for you—I’d love to make it happen. So get in touch and let’s create something unforgettable.
