Some love stories kick off in the most unexpected ways, and for Martin and Rosie, it all started with a cheeky swipe on Tinder. Bonded by their love for the outdoors, camping, and hiking, they spent loads of time adventuring together in the Lake District. So, when it came to picking a wedding venue, it had to be somewhere that felt like home—cue Yew Tree Farm in Coniston, with its stunning views and proper countryside vibes.
What Is a Humanist Wedding?
A humanist wedding is a non-religious ceremony that is centered around the couple, their values, and their love story. It is completely personal and can be tailored to reflect their personalities, beliefs, and relationship. Unlike traditional religious or civil weddings, humanist ceremonies are often led by a celebrant and can take place anywhere, from a scenic outdoor location to a meaningful spot chosen by the couple. The focus is on creating a warm, inclusive, and meaningful experience without any religious elements.
Getting Ready & All the Excitement
The morning was full of that brilliant mix of nerves and excitement as both Martin and Rosie got ready at Yew Tree Farm. With mates and family buzzing around, there was plenty of laughter, a few happy tears, and probably a sneaky glass of fizz or two. The setting was as perfect as they’d imagined—rustic, relaxed, and surrounded by those rolling hills they love so much.
A Ceremony With a Personal Touch
By 1:45 pm, guests started taking their seats, and instead of the traditional walk down the aisle, Martin and Rosie rocked up together—because why not? It was a lovely, personal humanist ceremony that felt totally “them.”
One of the standout moments was the “Warming of the Rings.” Their wedding bands were passed around to all the guests so everyone could give them a little blessing or good vibes before the couple exchanged them. With 100 of their nearest and dearest watching on, the whole thing felt incredibly special.
Drinks, BBQ & Plenty of Laughs
Once the “I dos” were done, the party kicked off! Drinks and nibbles were flowing, and the bar was officially open. The group photos captured the love and laughter of the day, all set against the stunning Lake District backdrop.
Throughout the day, as and when the light was just right and the opportunity knocked, we headed up and around the nearby landscape and paths. This even included a bit of off-roading and climbing to get some absolutely stunning portraits that showed off the farm’s breathtaking setting. The effort was well worth it for the incredible shots that truly captured the magic of the day.
At 5 pm, everyone tucked into a BBQ buffet—properly good food that kept the energy high for the evening ahead. Once the top table had polished off their plates, it was time for speeches. Cue a mix of hilarious stories, heartfelt moments, and just the right amount of roasting from the best men.
Dancing, Cake & Late-Night Shenanigans
By 6:45 pm, it was time to cut the cake—always a highlight! Then, just after 7 pm, the band started up, and the dance floor was officially open. The vibe was pure joy, with everyone letting loose and having a blast.
As the night drew to a close around 12:30 am, carriages arrived to take everyone home, but not before one last dance and a final toast to an absolutely cracking day. Martin and Rosie’s wedding wasn’t just a day—it was a full-on adventure, just like their love story. Here’s to many more happy years of hiking, feasting, and dancing together!
