The Fleece at Ruleholme used to be called The Golden Fleece, and I first photographed a wedding there, maybe ten years ago?! Since then, it has been transformed into a totally new building with a new name and brand. It's always sad to see a venue get knocked down, but what has taken its place is utterly perfect for a winter wedding like Sian & Greg had.
Nestled in the Cumbrian countryside just outside of Carlisle, The Fleece at Ruleholme is a contemporary luxury country house with beautifully finished rooms, a stunning centre atrium and a function room ready to fill with your loved ones for a wedding reception to remember!
Sian and Greg wanted a wedding day that echoed their personalities – relaxed, full of laughter, and fun. After only being engaged for two days they visited The Fleece and fell in love with it, especially as they both adore Christmas time and it was all decorated for the holiday.
While they met online, and while Greg had to delay their first date because he missed a train, on Sian and Greg's first date he pinky promised to marry her (see speeches photos for a cute pinky promise complete moment). He also serenaded Sian with Natasia Beddingfield's classic "Unwritten" which has now become their song and was the song they had their first dance to! They officially became a couple on the 30th of December 2018 so it made sense to make their wedding day the 5th anniversary of being together.
Following the wedding ceremony, guests were ushered into the central atrium of The Fleece at Ruleholme. The venue's exquisite timber detailing exuded a country house feel, creating an ambience of rustic luxury. This provided the ideal space for guests to mingle. At the same time, The Fleece at Ruleholme wedding team transformed the ceremony space into a stunning wedding breakfast and reception room.
During this time, we headed out for portraits in The Fleece's small garden and courtyard as well as down the driveway. I also loved how this traditional country inn style building had some cool ceiling lights, and I just knew I wanted to include them in a portrait with off-camera flash and my phone to make reflections adding a unique dimension to their wedding album. I also just find things like this fun and a challenge!
The day continued with speeches that brought tears and laughter. The transition to a crazy wedding reception party was seamless, featuring casino tables that added an element of excitement to the celebration. For one of the rare times, it was Greg and the gents who started the dancefloor moves almost as soon as the DJ started playing music. The evening was a testament to the couple's commitment to making their wedding not just a ceremony but a joyous and unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
Sian and Greg's winter wedding at The Fleece Ruleholme was perfect, so please do have a look at the slideshow and blog below. If you're thinking about having a wedding at The Fleece at Ruleholme, and you fancy contacting me about your photography, please do, as I would love to document your day!
